After School Treat and Tree Climbing

May 25, 2011

My love,

After school, we often go to Weirs Furniture store or The Highland Park Pharmacy. Why? So, you can get a sweet treat. Anything sweet is your favorite. At The Pharmacy, you get gumballs and rings or bouncy balls from the prize machine. Once in awhile, you get a vanilla milkshake. You are so excited to go to The Pharmacy and I expect you will have very fond memories of it. It is special and it's right down the street from us. One time, Siti gave you a $25 gift certificate to The Pharmacy. It was so thoughtful! Weir's has a candy shop in the back. You know exactly where it is. It's a big store, but you walk right to the candy shop. There, you get a chocolate chip cookie. You are precious and the ladies always comment about how cute you are. You always say, "Thank you" so happily as you rush to take the cookie out of the bag and wolf it down. You can wolf down some sweets.

You always climb the tree on the side of the house. Today, you got really high! You are fearless my love!

Sneaky Boppy Boy

May 2011

Hudson,

So, the boppy..... We kind of got rid of it, but we kind of didn't. You are now hanging onto a broken half cut boppy. Literally, the top part of the rubber has been cut off. You still hold it, try to suck it. God bless you, you love that boppy. It is your comfort item. I can understand that my love. I know that you love your boppy and I know that it is hard to give it up. Your Mamma sucked her thumb until, hmmmm.... Well, I will let Siti tell you. Let's just say that I would hide at school so I could suck it. Poor me! But, Eventually I stopped and I was ok and I found new ways to comfort myself and you will too.

So, my sneaky boppy boy. You get into the car after school the other day and basically tell me that you and Ms. Elizabeth are in liaisons. Apparently, there is a bowl of boppys in the cupboard. You say, "Ms Maria doesn't know." I say, "Doesnt know what?" You say, "My boppy." I said, "Are you napping with a boppy at school?" You tell me that you are and I ask you where you are getting it. You say, "Ms. Elizabeth gives it to me and we don't tell Ms. Maria." Too much!

You always tell me everything. I love it. If you have done something bad at school, you get right in the car and tell me. I hope you are always this way. Remember: You can tell me anything my love.

You love Ms. Elizabeth and she loves you and now you all are sneaking boppys together! HA!

NFL QB Matt Hasselbeck

May 25, 2011

So, you never cease to amaze me Hudson Squires. We went to the NFL Experience 4 months ago during Super Bowl week here in Dallas. You got about 7 packs of NFL football cards. You were very into them that week. You picked your favorite out of all the cards. It was Matt Hasselbeck, a QB for the Seattle Seahawks. There were a lot to choose from, but you kept picking him out. Something caught your eye. You had not looked at these cards since that week. You pulled them out tonight and you said, "I have to find my favorite player." You looked through all the cards and there must have been about 40 or 50. You found Matt Hasselbeck. This truly amazed me. How did you remember that? You were 2 when you saw that. I find that fascinating. You are a smart as a whip Hudson and you remember so much! I love you my little QB, Mamma

Crazy factoid: Matt Hasselbeck has been struck by lightening twice and only suffered minor injuries. A person has a 1/1,000,000 chance of being struck by lightening and he was struck twice. Incredible. Almost hard to believe. Is he some sort of a superhero?

Tornado! Get to Your Safe Place!

May 24, 2011

Tonight in Dallas, there was a crazy storm. I grew up in Oklahoma City in tornado alley and this seemed like one of the worst storms I have ever been close to. Daddy was traveling for work, so it was just me. I had to hold down the fort. Daddy is the one who usually worries about the weather, watches it all night and is always ready for a disaster. I guess I have witnessed so many storm warnings, I am immune to it. However, I knew when the sirens were going off for more than thirty minutes that this storm wasn't just going away. There was wicked thunder and lightning. You were sleeping through it all and my big debate was, "Do I wake my baby up and take him to our safe place?" The dogs were freaking out, especially Codi. They had come upstairs and would not leave the bed side. Codi was freaking out! Codi seems to have a sixth sense when it comes to predicting storms. Long before the skies darken and the rain falls, our thunderstorm phobic dog, Codi, becomes agitated, fearful, and clingy. Furthermore ,there is nothing on TV because the news has interrupted all the shows. I am texting Daddy a play by play, Uncle Vic has called to check on me and tell me to get to our safe place (the tornado had already swept through Oklahoma City), and Aunt Stephie tells me I better go wake you up. When the weather man says that the tornado has been spotted at Love Field, I knew it was time. We live 5 minutes from Love Field. I did not want to scare you. I did not want you to have bad memories of storms. I was scared of the dark and thunderstorms my whole life and I don't want you to be this way because there is nothing to be scared of. Thunder is God talking. The sound of thunder confirms that there is something much bigger than us up there. Rain is good. If there was no rain, the trees, the grass and the flowers wouldn't grow. We need rain. I always tell you this and when it rains you say, "Mamma now the grass, the trees and the flowers can grow." It's precious.

So, I wake you up and you are annoyed by this. I don't wake you up often. In fact, I can't remembering ever waking you like that. Off the cuff, I say, "It's raining and there is a hole in your ceiling. I don't want you to get wet so let's go down stairs until the rain passes. It will pass soon." Don't know where I came up with that one. You lay your head on my shoulders and you are agigated. So, you, me, Gracie and Codi proceed down the stairs into the tiny bathroom under the stairs. This bathroom is NYC tiny. We call it the oompa loompa bathroom because it is so small and the ceiling is so low. It was not easy to get the dogs in there too. You are getting more annoyed by the minute, "No Mamma. No. Mamma..." The dogs don't want to go into the bathroom. They're freaking. You just want to go back to sleep. We stay in there for about 10 minutes, the sirens stop and I put you back to bed. All was ok! WHEW!!!! The sirens did go on and off for awhile and there were some wicked cracks of thunder, but it all finally subsided three hours later!

I sat and watched the weather for like three straight hours. It was nuts. I never do that, but now I have my baby to protect and life is different. I would do anything to protect my baby.

*Fun Fact: Canines are more sensitive to drops in barometric pressure than humans. Barometric pressure is the pressure of the atmosphere. A drop in pressure means that conditions may be ripe for a storm to develop. A dog may learn to associate this pressure drop with the arrival of a storm.

*Love this quote: Thunder is good, thunder is impressive; but it is lightning that does the work. -Mark Twain

Because I Love Her...

May 24, 2011

Hudson,
We met Coco and Miss Rachel at the park today. You all were so cute. She was trying to hang on everything and climb up everything you were. She wanted to climb way up high like you, but you were too high in most instances. Hudson, you are monkey! Coco is so sweet and dainty and she doesn't need to be doing some of the crazy, daring things you do. You are truly fearless. You are now climbing on the very top of the jungle gym, as high as you can get (too high!). I spend half the time telling you to be careful or "No, come down."

When it was time to go, you got cranky, whiny and distant. You were not being very nice to Coco. She was trying to hug you, but you would not hug her and you always hug Coco. In fact, one time you were so excited to play with her at the mall, you ran to her and hugged her so hard that you knocked her down. It was funny/sad! Today, you wouldn't hug her bye bye. I felt so bad for Coco. She is the sweetest. You did give Miss Rachel a hug.

Hudson, it is important that you properly say hello and goodbye, always. When we say goodbye to people we love, we hug and kiss them. When we got into the car, I got onto you. I told you that it was not OK that you were not being nice to Coco. I asked you, "Why did you not want to say good bye or hug Coco?" You said to me, "Because I love her." This just about sums up everything. It's such a little boy to be mean to a girl he likes.

Baby, when you love someone, you always treat them with respect, kindness, love, and affection - give them hugs and kisses and make them feel special. You have so much love in your heart Hudson. Sometimes, I think your heart could explode with love. You don't know how to handle it at times and you shut down. I hope you can always express your feelings and keep your heart open my love. I know that it is hard sometimes, but when you open your heart, love comes, and the only thing worth having in this world is love. You don't need anything, but to be loved and to love in return.

My Little Man...

5-23-11

Hudson,

You seem like such a big boy today. I don't know what it is, but it's like you got a little bit older today. I let you stay up until 9 tonight, which I don't often do. However, now that you have gotten a little bit older, I let you stay up late once in awhile. When you were younger, no later than 7:30 and sometimes 7, and that was law! You were laying on our bed tonight, ear phones in, watching a movie on my Mac and you just seemed like a little man. Sniff sniff. I want to cry! These days are so precious and I know they will not last forever. I told Daddy, "One day, he will be a teenager, remote control in hand, flipping through the television stations until he gets tired." Watching you grow is the most beautiful and intriguing thing I have ever seen. My baby! You will always be MY BABY.

You know Hudson, you always were a little man, from birth. You always looked older and acted older. Plus, you had all that hair. You have always been my little man.

"This are the time to remember
Cause it will not last forever.
These are the days to hold onto
Cause we won't although we'll want to.
This is the time, but time is going to change.
I know we have to move somehow,
But I don't want to lose you now."

Dallas Mavericks vs. Oklahoma City Thunder

5-19-11

Hudson,

Mamma and Daddy went to see the Dallas Mavericks play the Oklahoma City Thunder at American Airlines Arena here in Dallas. It was game 4 of the NBA Western Conference finals. A very big deal for both teams. The Mavericks have never won an NBA title and are hungry to get that trophy and the Thunder are a new franchise just started in 2008, the year that you were born. This was a big conflict for Mamma.

5-19-11

NBA Western Conference Finals
Thunder won 106-100. The series is tied 2-2.
