Skippy, the Frog

April 2012

Today, we went on a bike ride.  We went to this park we always go to in Highland Park.  We met this little boy who was collecting frogs.  There were lots of baby frogs everywhere.  You found one and you played with him and wanted to take him home too like the other little boy.  I told you we had nothing to put him in.  We saw the little boy again and you gave him the frog.  It was about one of the sweetest things I have ever seen you do, especially my love, for a little boy who has historically had a hard time sharing.  The little boy was so happy and his mother thought you were the nicest little boy.  They named the frog Hudson and he put it in his box.  I was so proud of you!

Later,  we found another one - I was almost intent on it after you gave the other frog to the little boy.  I found a sack and we put the frog in there.   I rode all the way home with him.  We took him him and made a home for him out of an old shoe box.  You were so excited.  You named him Skippy.  Neither one us really knew what to put in the box or what to feed him.  We put grass in there and the the Internet said to wait a day or so before feeding him so he could get use to his new habitat.

Well.... we woke up the next day and you ran down to find skippy... not alive.  I felt so horrible!!  I was like, "Oh sweetie, I am so sorry.  Skippy is not doing so well."  You say to me, "He's dead."  I was thinking "OH NO!  He realizes he is not alive and this is first little bout with a pet that didn't make it."  I asked if you were sad and you kept saying. "It's ok mamma, it's ok."  You put him in the back yard.  We tried my love.

xoxo I love you amore mio, Mamma
