Boys Vs. Girls

May 17, 2011

Hudson, My love,

I wanted to share something with you. I was trying to set up a play date with Andy, a little boy in your class. So, I said, "Do you want to play with Andy tomorrow?" You said, "No!" I kept asking you why, and - "Is Andy not nice to you?" You say, "Andy doesn't talk to me." Then you tell me that you don't want to play with Brooks either, another little boy in your class. You tell me, "Brooks doesn't talk." And Brooks doesn't talk like you talk Hudson..... So, you say, "I want to play with Coco! Coco!"

I am starting to wonder, at the age of 3, if you get along better with girls right now, which is perfectly fine. Girls do mature faster and they supposedly talk better than boys at a young age. Maybe girls are more on your level and there is no competition. I think the boys your age, in your class, completely bore you. They don't talk to you or answer you sometimes because you can go on and on, you don't want to share, and I'm not sure you want the competition. It's quite interesting. I asked you, "Who is your favorite boy in your class?" You say, "None of them." I said, "Who is your favorite girl?" You say "Coco."

So, there is some theme here. It just might be time for you to change schools, and you will be changing in 4 months to a more challenging school. I am starting to think you really do need more of a challenge. Your teachers told me this when I met with them. I told you, "Soon, you will be changing schools and you will meet lots of new friends." You ask, "Big boys?" I said, "Yes, you will be meeting lots of new big boys." I think Daddy and I should be ready - you will be with 5 and 6 year olds in your Montessori mixed class room and I think you will latch on to some older boy.... or girl...

You are brilliant, unique and perfect Hudson, exactly the way you are. Always choose the road less traveled by.

I love you amore mio, Mamma
