September 2012
We went to this museum today in Yonkers, NY. Mommy Googles these random places and throws you all and the car and goes. I've been doing this since Hudson was born. It might have to do with my restlessness, but I have fun taking you all to new places and seeing the world through your eyes. I'm a pretty fun mom, if I say so myself! It was fun enough, but probably wouldn't go back. It seemed more for adults. Hudson did make a portrait of Daddy. They had a room where kids were doing art. It was sweet. Hudson, you also played with this little 2 year old boy. You were beyond sweet. You let him beat you and you let him chase you and get you. It's you totally get it. He was you littler and you didn't need to prove yourself or win. I was so proud if you! I always tell you that you always wanted to play with big kids when you were little and to remember that. Heck, you still only want to be with the big kids.
Xoxo Mamma
I am blogging for you my Hudson. I was writing a journal, but writing was wearing me out. So, I thought I would journal online. It's easier!

Daddy and Hudson's Adventure to Bear Mountain
July 7, 2012
Today, you and Daddy went on an adventure and 9 months pregnant Mamma got some alone time and rested. You and Daddy had so much fun! First, you went to see Gracie and Codi. They are staying in a a doggie ranch up North in New York during our transition and move from Dallas to NYC to CT. The dogs were great and they were very happy to see you all. Then, you all went to Bear Mountain. You rode the carousel and hiked. It stated to rain hard during the hike. Daddy said you got very worried, and said "We have to head for shelter and we need to go check on Mommy!" Oh, my sweet, sweet boy- I love how you want to take care of your mamma and hope you will always want to :). I love you! You know you were as safe as you could be - Daddy is a protector by nature and would have never let anything happen. You are so precious my baby. Xoxo
Fact- Bear mountain is located on the west side of the Hudson River (your river). Bear Mountain offers beautiful views of West Point and became a state park after Sing Sing Prison, which was located on it, was demolished. You can hike, bike, boat, camp and even cross country ski there. It's beautiful!

July 4th Down the Hudson River!
July 4, 2012
Happy 4th of July!! Today, we did something so fun and so American for our country's birthday. We took a boat down the Hudson River (the rover you were names after Hudson), around the Statue of Liberty, by the new Freedom Tower in downtown Manhattan, over to the East River, pass the Southstreet Seaport and under the Brooklyn Bridge (DUMBO).
It was a beautiful day. The sun was out and the River was glistening. Mamma is 9 months pregnant so there were some times I had to go down below to be in the air conditioning, but I did pretty darn good for a woman over 9 months preggies. You had so much fun. You stood on the side of the boat and held the railing and took in all in. When you saw the Statue, you said, "Look Mamma! The Statue of Liberty!"
A beautiful July 4th! Happy birthday America! Today, we commemorate the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776.
Mamma and Daddy both of our boys! xoxo
You on your river! (above)
Mamma is 9 months pregnant with beautiful baby boy Squires 2. (above)
DUMBO (Down Under The Manhattan Bridge Overpass). The Brooklyn Bridge is so amazing. It took 14 years to complete and ranks as one of the greatest engineering feats of the 19th century. Daddy and I had our wedding dinner under the bridge at the very famous River Cafe. (above)
There she is, Lady Liberty (above). IT always takes my breath away when I see her. The French gave The United States this beautiful gift, the Statue of Liberty, in 1886 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence.
This is the new Freedom Tower (above) will replace the World Trade Center twin towers. Nothing could ever replace the twin towers, but this will be a magnificent feat in downtown Manhattan.
View of downtown from the back of the boat. (above)
This is Ellis Island (above). This is a special place for Mamma and a big reason your name is Hudson. When I lived in TriBeCa, I walked or ran along the Hudson River almost daily. I would stop many days or nights and look at Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty. I would look at Ellis Island and thank my ancestors for coming to this country to give me a better life. Our ancestors came through Ellis Island, don't ever forget it. Our Arabic last name was Jalbut. Someday, I will take you and your brother over there and we will look for our family name.

Chelsea Piers
June 29, 2012
We went to Chelsea Piers today. It was fun! There is so much to do there. The open play area we went to ended up being for toddlers so we went to the 300 bowling alley and played games. Then, we walked along the Hudson for a bit and looked at the boats. You really had to ride this horse below. xoxo I love you Hudson river boy, Mamma

Daddy and Mommy's Trip to NYC and your time with Erik
February 14th & 15th 2012
A beautiful view of the Washington Bridge. The drive from Westchester down the Westside Highway along the Hudson River while the sun is setting is such a beautiful site. I could drive along the river you were named after everyday and it would make me smile.
Annette brought Erik and you had so much fun with him for 2 days! Erik is such a sweet boy and a good example for you.

You were accepted and I was NOT surprised! 3-11-11
Hudson,
We have been going through a lot of tests, interviews, school tours and crazy applications to get you into the best school we can. It is crazy here in Dallas. You have to get on these school lists before you are out of the womb. CRAZZZZY! I got a great education growing up and my parents did not have to go through all of this.
This is the month we hear from all the schools. So, it is nerve wracking, however, I am not really worried. You are only 2 years and 11 months old. We would be fine if you stayed in Saint Michael another year. You like it there so much and it is great school, however, you will not have Ms. Elizabeth next year and you might be heart broken. You love her.
So, we got our first letter today and you were accepted to the Episcopal School of Dallas (ESD)! They had told us they would email results today from 4 to 5pm and Mommy and Daddy were so proud when we received that email!! So proud!!!!! It was great to get that first letter and it be a yes, however, we would have been fine and just as proud of you if had been a no. That's for sure.
We have done a lot to get into ESD. The application process was nuts. It was like a college one. I had to write long essays and I wasn't even sure what to write, but I worked hard and did my best. You had to take a speech test, you had a private interview and also a playdate/interview - this is where you go with other kids, play in a classroom, and the teachers interact and observe. I didn't get to go with you to the playdate interviews. It's all ridiculous really. You had to do all this before you were 3, but none of it was painful and you thought most of it was fun. You walked out of every playdate/interview with a huge smile and told me you had fun. I called them playdate meetings - meetings like Daddy and Mommy have. You woke up one morning saying, "Mommy do we have any playdate meetings today?" Seriously, too funny, or is it ridiculous? You're not even 3!
I knew you did well in all your interviews at ESD. I knew it! I stood out side while you were doing your private one with a woman named Ashley Beck. You were hilarious and she kept saying, "You're a funny little guy." You answered everything correctly. I was so proud! When you went to your playdate meeting, Ashley was there to greet you and you went straight into her arms, and hugged her. I heard her say, "You're a lover. I love sweet guys like you." I mean it was so sweet. I could not have been prouder, because believe me, there are days when you see people or meet people and you say, "NO!" So, I was like, "Thank God." It's like you knew. Boy, you can turn on the charm Hudson and you love girls. It helped that Ashley was a pretty lady and I am not kidding! You are going to be trouble!
A week ago, I dropped you off at school and Ms. Elizabeth told me that Ashley walked all the way over (ESD and Saint Michael are connected) to tell Ms Elizabeth that she loved you! Ms. Elizabeth says to me, "So apparently, ESD is in love with Hudson. Ashley walked down here to tell me what a wonderful little boy he was." I was so very proud!!!! I was more proud that you were thought of as nice, sweet and funny, much more than I was proud of you for being smart, however you are smart - VERY. BUT, first and foremost, I want you to be nice, humble and helpful to others, before anything - before good schools or good grades - BE A KIND PERSON AND TREAT OTHERS AS YOU WOULD LIKE TO BE TREATED.
One last thing about the admission process to ESD. You have to take a speech test. They want to see what you understand and how well you talk. Well, you had taken a speech test many months prior, which was for another school we were applying to - St. Alcuin Montessori. I had told ESD that you had already taken a speech test for another school and I asked if I could submit that one. ESD told me that if I was confident and I thought you did well, I could submit it - it was up to me. The lady at ESD told me that many parents like to wait as long as they can, because your when you a baby, every month, every day counts. You are a totally different person from month to month. It's fascinating. Anyhow, I was very confident that you did well. I was right, because you got accepted! You had done that speech test when you had just turned 2. Hudson, you have always been so verbal and were talking in sentences very early on. No one could believe how well you spoke at such a young age. You have a vast vocabulary for your age.
All this being said, I am very conflicted on whether I want you to go to ESD. Now, is that crazy or what? Daddy and I have to do some soul searching. You would go there until you are a senior in high school, so you will be with all the same kids for many years. I think there are positives and negatives about that. Also, it is a very ritzy, private, somewhat homogeneous school. This, I don't love. All I really want for you is culture and diversity. That is very hard to find here in Dallas, Texas. Heck, I would be raising you in New York City if it was up to me! You must always remember that we are not alone. We must try to understand and be open to other cultures. There is a whole big world out there. Be curious. Be adventurous (you are) I want you to go to school with all different kids of people, because we live in a global world. B the time you are 20, it will be smaller and even more global.
I love you my little adventurer,
Hudson
p.s. when we were choosing your name, we found somewhere on the Internet that Hudson meant "adventurer." PERFECT.
p.s.s. You were named after the famous river that flows along the West side of New York City. Mommy spent many many days gazing out along this River. It is a very special river to me. The Hudson River was named for the famous explorer and navigator, Henry Hudson, - another adventurous soul.
