Hudson,
You are very particular about things. I am not sure what part will last and what part is simply your age. You freak out if your underwear is not on just right. You do not like tags in your underwear or shorts. You will start crying and say, "Cut it off Mamma! There are tags!" You freak out when your socks are not on a certain way. There is this little bump on the part of the sock above the baby toe and you don't like it. Sometimes, when we get dressed, I am just hoping that everything is fitting right, because if not, you get so upset! Sometimes, you will take everything off and start again. Today after quiet time, we went through 3 pairs of underwear. You are also this way about your toys and your music room. When Annette or I clean the music room and move your guitars, you freak and say, "I don't like anyone cleaning my music room." I tell you that we are going to continue to clean and that you are very lucky we clean. You say, "I don't want you to clean." You have actually gotten a little better in the past 6 months, but you are still very particular about so many things.
We all have our peculiarities.
I love you sweet baby love, Mamma
I am blogging for you my Hudson. I was writing a journal, but writing was wearing me out. So, I thought I would journal online. It's easier!

Still Loving Dino Dan... 3-27-11
My love,
Ok, so you are still obsessed with "Dino Dan" and dinosaurs in general. You watched Dino Dan today and did not move. You have seen all the episodes like 5 times each, but you still watch them like it's the first time. We bought you a junior ranger vest in Sante Fe, NM, and you love to wear it because Dino Dan has the same vest. After quiet time today, you took all your clothes off and said, "I have to out my shorts and vest on." It is the cutest thing ever! You are just so precious and I love you so very much! I love to watch you get so into something.

College B-Ball March Madness 2011 3-27-11
Today, Mamma's favorite college basketball team, Kansas, lost in the Great 8. I am very sad, because I have watched them lose so many times when they were favored to win it all. I have to remember that it's just a game. It was heartbreaking though! They were a 1 seed and lost to VCU (Virginia Commonwealth), an 8 seed. Kansas has an exceptional basketball team this year. Two of their players are twin brothers, Marcus and Markieff Morris. They will be in the NBA by the time you read this. We watched the game and I told you how great college basketball players were. I said, "They have practiced everyday to be this good. They have been sleeping and eating a lot." You looked at me and said, "Mamma, can I play basketball when I am college?" Swear! Daddy witnessed it. Let me tell you, you can make a basket into your toddler goal from about 7-8 feet away - this is not a joke! Your PlayWisely teacher saw it and said, "amazing." You are very athletically coordinated Hudson and I am nit saying this because I am your Mamma.
I am here to tell you that you can do anything that you put your mind to. Just remember, it doesn't come easy, you have to practice practice! Do it with passion and you can do anything.
*March Madness Notes:
The Final Four 2011:
Kentucky (4 seed)
VCU (8 seed)
UConn (Connecticut -3 seed)
Butler (8 seed)
xo, my sweet baby
p.s. Rock Chalk Jayhawk KU!

Deadline! March 25, 2011
Hudson,
Today was the deadline to accept or reject the schools that offered you a place. This has been the most stressful week! I have been so anxious. All I want is to put you in the right school for YOU and to give you the best opportunity to flourish. This is what Daddy and I both want and that is why we chose St. Alcuin Montessori School. This was not an easy decision, well not for me. Daddy has been much more calm and was impressed with St. Alcuin from the beginning.
I have worn myself out. I have exhausted every avenue - hours of Internet research, phone calls to moms who have children that already attended there, calls to the heads of three different private schools and other things that I won't bore you with. It's about all I have thought of since we got your acceptance letters. I think I have driven Daddy crazy. One thing is for sure - Daddy and I are so very proud of you. You are only three and you already have many doors opening - you were accepted to St. Alcuin Montessori, Episcopal School of Dallas, and The Lamplighter School three exceptional schools. WE'RE so truly proud of you Hudson! Again, we thought you would get into one school, not all three. There was also another school, Meadowbrook (you have been on the waiting list there since you were 8 months old). I loved it and I talked to the head mistress there a few days ago. She said she may have a spot for you, but I I decided not to pursuit it because we have too many options and I was already going nuts. Options are amazing, but can be agonizing. We would rather be having this "problem" than the opposite. However, I will say it again, if you didn't get into any schools, we would have been just as proud of you.
I have agonized over this decision, because you are my heartbeat. I want the very best for YOU - not for me and Daddy or for what society says is best, but for Hudson Squires. I want you to go to the school that will nourish you, make you a better person and take you to the next level. We truly feel for your personality, Montessori is right. We had to just jump and trust our intutions. It was hard to say no to the other schools, and a school such as Lamplighter is very coveted here in Dallas. Many parents try everything in their power to get their children accepted to this school. Honestly, we want different for you. I don't want you to go where all the Highland Park people go. I don't want you to go to school with only rich, white kids (ESD seems that way), because these schools are NOT a microcosm of the world. The world is global and small and we must be open to other cultures and languages. This is the only smart way to teach your children in my humble opinion. St Alcuin offers you more culture and diversity and that is one of the number one things I want for you.
This is going to be a change for our whole family and it is going to be hard, but we know it will be good, or we hope! We are going to have to get up earlier. You will have school everyday from 8 am to 11:45 am - whoa, everyday! I am not sure I am ready, but what I do, I do for you. I had to hand deliver the papers to St. Alcuin today and I was almost shaking and I almost cried. It was such a big moment and a big deal. I have been working on schools since you were five months old so this was a very big decision. MY BABY, that's what you are, and that was a hard moment, but a good one. If you ever start to take your education for granted, you read this post. You need to know how much thought went into your schooling and hard hard I worked to get you where we felt you needed to be. Knowledge is power and education is paramount.
What we want for you is to respect others, to be open to other cultures, to work well with others, to think for yourself and to be a leader, and from what we can see, that's what Montessori school is all about. This is a mysterious road for all three of us and we are going to travel down it together.
I love you my little Montessori boy,
Mamma

Just Look at that Smile...3-18-11
Hudson,
Just look at that million dollar smile! You truly have a beautiful smile and you should smile all the time. Your laugh is infectious. You know, not everyone has a beautiful smile. You have been blessed with that baby. You had a full set of teeth by about 14/15 months, I think? It was nuts. Your hair and teeth came in like wildflowers - lucky you! Many people have commented on your smile. Just remember: LET PEOPLE COMPLIMENT YOU!
A smile is worth everything. I remember one day, I was walking in NYC downtown. I walked by a bunch of construction workers. I smiled at one and he looked and me and lip synced, "thank you." I will never forget that.
Smile often my love.
Today, give a stranger one of your smiles. It might be the only sunshine he sees all day. ~Quoted in P.S. I Love You, compiled by H. Jackson Brown, Jr.
I love you baby, Mamma
Look at how handsome you look above. Your smile makes me melt.

Fergie.... 3-21-2011
Hudson,
Presently, you are in love with Fergie from the band The Black Eyed Peas. I have TiVoed a lot of performances by The Black Eyed Peas and we watch them everyday. You told me a few weeks ago, "Mamma, I love Fergie. She's pretty." We were dancing and you said, "Mamma, I want to hug Fergie. Will you hug her with me?" Oh, my girl crazy baby. What am I going to do with you? It's like you just know some girls are prettier than others. You are too young to know this! You ask, "If The Black Eyed Peas come to Dallas in concert, can we go Mamma?" You also think that Fergie looks like your teacher, Ms. Elizabeth. They both have long blonde hair. You were at school today and told Ms. Elizabeth that she looked like Fergie! When you all came to the car after school, you said in front of her, "Mamma, I told Ms. Elizabeth that she looked like Fergie." Ms Elizabeth smiled, she even blushed a bit. You may have a small crush on Ms Elizabeth? You are too much Hudson. I can absolutely 1000% assure you that you are the only one your class (at 2 years of age) talking about The Black Eyed Peas and Fergie.
I love you my rock star, Mamma
This is Fergie. Real name: Stacy Ferguson. She dropped half of her last name when she joined The Black Eyed Peas. She grew up in Southern California and got her start on Disney's Kids Incorporated. Her career took off when she joined The Peas.
The Black Eyed Peas - Apl.De.Ap, Fergie, Taboo & Will.I.Am (he's my favorite). Apl.De.Ap and Will.I.Am have been friends since the 8th grade and have both over come a lot of adversity.

Picnic in the Park and Fishing 3-15-11
Hudson,
We have been having Sunday picnics at the park. We have been going to the park on Lovers Lane in Uinversity Park. There is a big fountain, a pond and lots of ducks. These bigs boys were fishing and they let you use one of their poles. You thought it was so cool! You really want a fishing pole and Daddy is going to get you one for your birthday. When we go to the Creek, sometimes I will find long sticks and we pretend we are fishing. I will say, "I got one. Let's cook it up and eat it." You think it's so fun! Maybe you will be a fisherman? Your Daddy and Big John can teach you, because they both fish. Big John loves to fish.
xoxo Mamma

Beatles T-Shirt February 2011
Hudson,
You are wearing your Beatles t-shirt here. You thought it was really cool when I pulled it out of your closet. I told you that The Beatles were one of the greatest bands ever. You look so very handsome in this color and shirt, but you always look handsome. Later, I put my pink Beatles t-shirt on and Daddy took these shots.
*The Beatles fun fact: Though the Beatles were still largely unknown in the U.S. in October 1963, Ed Sullivan got his first glimpse of Beatlemania on Halloween of that year. His plane at Heathrow Airport outside London was delayed due to hordes of screaming Beatles fans welcoming the boys back from an overseas concert. When he was notified about the cause of the delay, Ed Sullivan said, "Who the hell are the Beatles?" That experience prompted him to book them on his show in 1964.
