Daddy Adoring John Henry
September 2012
JH,
Daddy was adoring you. You have blue eyes and sandy blond hair like him. I hope your eyes stay blue! I thought you would have brown eyes and hair like me because I have dominant genes, but right now, you don't. Your skin is even more fair, like Daddy. Your absolutely beautiful, that's all I know!!
I love you baby love, Mamma

The Hudson River Museum
September 2012
We went to this museum today in Yonkers, NY. Mommy Googles these random places and throws you all and the car and goes. I've been doing this since Hudson was born. It might have to do with my restlessness, but I have fun taking you all to new places and seeing the world through your eyes. I'm a pretty fun mom, if I say so myself! It was fun enough, but probably wouldn't go back. It seemed more for adults. Hudson did make a portrait of Daddy. They had a room where kids were doing art. It was sweet. Hudson, you also played with this little 2 year old boy. You were beyond sweet. You let him beat you and you let him chase you and get you. It's you totally get it. He was you littler and you didn't need to prove yourself or win. I was so proud if you! I always tell you that you always wanted to play with big kids when you were little and to remember that. Heck, you still only want to be with the big kids.
Xoxo Mamma

Hudson's Love of Dinosaurs
September 2012
Hudson,
Dinosaurs are your army men. Daddy says that. You can play with them by yourself for hours. Your passion for dinosaurs has now lasted half of your life time and it's important for you to know how into them you have been for over two years now. It's crazy. You can emulate a T Rex better than any human being on the planet. Daddy and I were saying that we actually have never seen any child or anyone emulate one like you. Other people have said this to us as well. You often go into T Rex roaring when you are embarrassed, shy or angry. It can be annoying and I tell you that it's fun to be a dinosaur sometimes, but not all of the time! Some times you will meet someone new and roar and go into T Rex mode. Daddy and are like "Here comes the dinosaur." Then, the person will be like, "Wow, that's actually a really good impression. He actually looks like a T Rex." It's all a little mad, but you are our little T REX!!
When you play with them, you line them up in different ways- sometimes in a perfect circle, sometimes in a line, sometimes you line the meat eaters and the plant eaters up separately. Sometimes you line up all your T Rex's, which you have like 30 of them, against all the dinosaurs. You will thwack them across the room with the T Rex's tail. I helped you build a dinosaur fort with Lincoln logs one day. It was fun.
This passion you have for dinosaurs is kind of amazing and it will almost be sad when it ends, and heck, maybe it won't. You know so many dinosaur names, it's crazy. You will say, "It's a Carnotaurus Mamma- see the horns," or you have called out some books that illustrate the T Rex with three claws. You say, "But it's not a T Rex. It's got three claws and T Rex has two." You remember like everything I have ever read to you. It's crazy! I could go on and on. I'll end with something you said recently. I asked, "Hudson, why do you like dinosaurs so much?" you responded, "Because they are fascinating.". Yes they are. Great answer.
Unbelievable you are. Did I tell you how articulate you are as well? You never cease to amaze me.
I love you my little T Rex,
Mamma

September 11, 2012 Never Forget
9-11-12
Hudson and John Henry,
By the time you are both grown up, September 11th, I fear, will be a part of this country's distant past. Something you study at school, as Pearl Harbor is for me. Something that won't directly affect you. You both need to know that this day changed my life and this country's life forever. It was horrible, terrifying and traumatizing for all Americans. A day we will never forget. A day we were all ONE. No one was black, white, Asian, Latino, Republican or Democrat. We were all Americans. I remember exactly where I was. I was living in Scottsdale, Arizona and it was very early in the morning with the time change. I remember the phone ringing and ringing. I didn't answer it the first few times because it was early. I finally answered and it was Aunt Stephie. She frantically asked if I was watching the news. I couldn't believe my eyes when I turned the television on. I saw the beloved twin towers crumbling and I thought I was watching a Hollywood movie, not a real event. My heart fell. I couldn't believe my own eyes. I drove all the way to Oklahoma City the next day- 16 hours. I just wanted to see my Mamma and my family. That's how frightened and upset I was - we all were. We were fragile and shocked and we all felt vulnerable to these evil people who had no names or faces- just Al Qaeda- that's all we kept hearing. We were all scrambling - trying to figure out how strongest nation in the world got attacked. We were horrified and we all wanted them to pay for what they had done to us, to our dear country, and to our fellow Americans. Why did this unnecessary evil happen?
One of my very best friends, Amy Rice, lost her brother, David, on 9/11. He was in one of the twin towers. Amy and I grew up together in OKC. We went to the same grade school and high school. Her family was absolutely torn up. A nightmare for any family. When I think of David in the tower, I lose my breath. 9/11 is a very difficult day for Amy every year. This year, I went to the city to see her and have dinner with her, which I know was special for her and it was beyond special for me. I wouldn't have wanted to be anywhere else that night. We had a drink in front of David's tree. Last year, Amy and her family pulled a lot strings to have this tree planted for David in the West Village across the street from Amy's apartment. Amy just ordered a plaque for it. She says that she walks by it everyday and it gives her a sense of peace. I saw the tree for the first time and the plaque and tears came to my eyes. God bless your soul David Rice.
Cheers to you David...

Astronaut Hudson!
Early Sept 2012
Hudson,
We had a play date with new friends today, Nicholaa and his mom, Natasha. Nicholas is in your class at your new school, First Church. I really like his mom, Natasha. She is from Russia and she is very down to earth. Nicholas was born in Russia. They moved to Old Greenwich a year ago. They invited us to their house after school. You tried on Nicholas' astronaut costume. You looked precious!

First Day of Pre K at First Church Preschool in OG
September 6, 2012
Hudson,
You are my precious baby! Always! You picked this outfit for your first day of school because you said you wanted to look "handsome for me." You have been a trooper my love. This summer of 2012 was life changing for us all. We have moved from Dallas to NYC to Old Greenwich, CT. We have stayed in numerous hotels during our move, stayed in temporary housing in NYC, moved to OG, and you had a baby brother on the second day that we moved in our new house in OG and your Mamma had to stay in a hospital for 4 days. You went to three different camps- NY Kids Club, Chelsea Piers in Stamford, CT, and The Little Gym in Stamford. It's been a wild and crazy summer and I think you have learned a huge lesson in flexibility. It is now time to get into a routine and a schedule. You seem very excited to go to school and nothing could make me happier. I think you are ready to meet new friends and be social. We went yesterday for a meet and greet and you had ao much fun and said you didn't want to leave. This school could not be more different than your school last year, Saint Alcuin Montessori, which was very strict and rigid. This school is more laid back and play based. Daddy and I thought this is what you needed with all this change. I labored over this decision. We already know you're smart and you are going to excel at any school you go to. Your teacher told us this last year. It's time to focus on the social aspect of life because you can be the smartest person in the world but i you don't have social skills, it doesn't matter. I'm so proud of you. So proud. You are such a big boy!
All my love, Mamma

Brothers Hanging
Early September 2012
Henry is about 5/6 weeks old. Hudson is 4.
Watching you two hang out warms Mommy's heart. Hudson, the little paleontologist, thought his T Rex could keep John Henry company. Hudson also was teaching Henry about dinosaurs. Let me tell you Henry, if anyone can teach you about dinos, Hudson can. Love it!
Stick together like glue- you're brothers.

Fun at Todd's Point Beach!
Sept 1, 2012
It's memorial day weekend and we spent the late evening at Todd's Point beach. It was a lot of fun! Hudson had fun with the older girls, of course. Hudson, you are girl crazy and I'm
not sure how I'm going to take that! You have a terrible crush on Dave and Alicia Collier's oldest, Grace. She is 8 and doesn't pay much attention to you, but you want her to so badly. It breaks my heart! I keep telling you that you have to play it cool with her and not get in her face- girls don't like that. You don't get that now but you will someday. Henry slept most of the time, but when he woke up, Hudson showed him off to the girls who were fawning all over him. The weather was perfect!
I love you all! Mamma
