Xmas Drums For Ella and Karli !

12-25-12

Ella and Karli got drums for Xmas. Anni sent me this picture. Ella said, "I got drums like Hudson! Now we can play together!". How sweet is that? She identifies the drums with you. You have loved the drums Hudson since you were 1. Uncle Rhoni got you your first set. Anyone who knows you knows that! Daddy and I have always fostered your love for the drums- we live with the drums and the banging because we will always support what you love!

Jamming Out...Your Love of Music...

Hudson,

You still love music and jamming out. YEAH! Mommy loves that, I have to admit. What would I do without music and lyrics? I missed my calling, but you have your whole life! Although I will never force you. I hope you continue with your love of music and instruments, but it has to be something you want.

We have been jamming out since you were a baby. It started with me carrying you and listening to loud music and dancing when you were just a wee babe - every single day! Some of the best days of my life!

You still LOVE LOVE LOVE the drums. Your instrument of choice. I put you in piano, but that was a little premature. You were only 3! You were not really into doing the homework, so we are taking a hiatus from that until you are about 4.5. The thing you liked the most about piano class were these 2 girls that also took piano, who you would see before your class. Your teacher was Mr. Mike and you really liked him too. I keep telling you it all starts with the piano. Start there and you will learn music theory and the backbone of what you will need to learn any instrument. I sure wish I would have learned piano when I was young.

Here is what's interesting. You are getting a bit frustrated with your drums. I think you are tired of just banging. Heck, you have the moves. I mean you are a great drummer for 3! You do this crossover with your sticks. It's awesome! However, you will throw them down and say, "I want to play different and I want bigger drums like they have in bands!" I say, "You mean you want to learn to play the drums." You say, "Yes, I do!" It's amazing. You are so smart. I tell you it will happen in due time. You have to keep your interest and be willing to practice and we will get you a big drum set. The funny thing is - You have the biggest drum set around for a 3 year old. You are something else my little rock star!!!

Remember this - You cannot get anywhere in life without practice and passion.

I love you my drummer, my rockstar, my 3-year-old musician,
Mamma

Christmas at Home in Dallas

December 25 & 26 2011

HO HO HO! Merry Christmas!

After New York City and OKC, we finally celebrated Christmas at our house. It was great to get home and prepare for Santa Claus and watch you wake up in the morning and open all your presents. That brought Daddy and I so much joy!

First and foremost, Christmas is Jesus' birthday, so happy birthday Jesus!

Luke 1:35 The angel answered, "The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God."

You sprinkled reindeer feed all over the lawn the night before Christmas. You were so precious!

Your music room had lots of new gifts from Santa, including the new drum set (below). We left milk and cookies out for Santa and you wrote him a note. It was so sweet!

You loved all your new toys. You had such a blast opening your presents and we loved watching you. Daddy gave Mommy lots of awesome presents! H was generous, as always. You jammed on your drums and you also put on the waders and hunting hat that Squires, Jackson and Scotty gave you. You really liked the lasso that Santa gave you as well. It was special morning. We love you Hudson!

p.s. Hudson. be a good boy like Santa said. He wrote you this long note about how you have been good and so he brought you many presents, but he said that he would be watching and to make sure you share your toys and respect your mommy and Daddy, among other things... Santa rocks!

p.s. Always remember that toys will not make you happy. Stuff won't make you happy. The only thing that can bring you true happiness is LOVE - loving others, giving to others and loving yourself. It's one of the truest thing I'll ever tell you.

Let's Listen to Lady Antebellum

June 30, 2011

Today, you wanted to turn on Lady Antebellum and jam out. I was so happy because we had not listened to them or watched the TiVo recording in so long.

I know I have blogged about this other times, but I want you to really understand how this band had a major influence on all of our lives because of you. From the age of 2 to 3, literally more than a year, we listened to them and jammed out to them everyday. You would wake up and say, "Lady Antebellum!" I swear. You were not even 2! Every morning, you would tell Daddy and me us that you dreamed about them. I always say, "What did you dream about my love?" and you would say, "Lady Antebellum." Who even knows if a 2-year-old gets the abstract concept of dreaming, but that was your standard answers, probably because you loved them.

I TiVoed one of their concerts and I swear you watched it 100s of times. I would turn it on and you would bring your drum set in front of the TV and you would watch the whole thing, which was an hour, drum and jam. I would usually sing or play the guitar. You love Charles, Hillary and Dave and you know all their names. PLUS, we took you to see them in concert! That's right. I can assure you, you were the only 2 year old there. I don't think you could believe it they were in front of your face. Daddy got us amazing seats so you could see them perfectly. It must have been so hard for a 2-year-old to process after seeing them so many times on TV. We had a blast taking you.

It was almost sad when you stopped watching them everyday and being so obsessed with them. Dinosaurs took over! You still like them, but the obsession is gone. Who knows what caught your eye that first day I turned that concert on the TV when you were 2, but whatever it was, you stared at that TV and did not move!

xoxo I love you my music baby, Mamma

p.s. Music rules!

Charles Kelley, Hillary Scott, and Dave Haywood - Lady Antebellum

Fun Fact: The group got their name when they were photographing "antebellum" homes. The antebellum architectural style describes the large plantation homes in the American South. While photographing the houses one of the group said that there's a great band name in there, and they adopted the Lady Antebellum name shortly after.

"This world keeps spinning faster
Into a new disaster, so I run to you
I run to you, baby
And when it all starts coming undone
Baby, you're the only one I run to
I run to you"
-I Run to You, Lady Antebellum

This is the very first Lady A song I sang to you and for some reason, you loved it and asked me to keep singing it. We were outside, you were drumming on the bushes and you kept saying, "Sing it again Mamma." What a beautiful memory!

Japanese Maple Leaf Drums 4-17-11

Hudson,

Today you were playing your Japanese Maple Leaf and sticker bush drums. This is one of your favorite drumming spots. You are very creative. The top of the iron stair rail is your microphone, the Japanese Maple Leaf is your cymbal, the sticker bushes are your drums. You jam out and sing your songs. You write your own songs! Your big song right now is, "I don't want to do what you do every single day ay ay ay ..." It's so precious the way you hang on to the end of the word "day." These lyrics seem very fitting for an obstinate boy like you, my love. You told me, "Mamma, you sing and I will play the drums." Then, get this, you told me what to sing, which was, "You're a pretty girl, but you don't know me ee -ee -ee." I swear! Can you believe these lyrics? Too much! You like to sing about pretty girls. You like pretty girls, let's face it.
"Mamma, mamma, you're so pretty," is my favorite!

I love you amore, Mamma

Drums After Siesta - January 2011

Hudson,

You woke up from your siesta and you wanted to go downstairs and play your drums. It takes you awhile to get happy after your siesta, and sometimes, you are full on in a bad mood. I tell you, "It's ok if you need 10 minutes to be by yourself to wake up," and you say, "No! I don't want to be by myself." You did not want me to take these pictures, but you looked so cute in your big boy shirt. You don't like to put your pants on for awhile after siesta. You wonder all over in your pull up or your underwear. Honestly, you are so precious in your underwear or your pull up, you can run in them all day as far as I am concerned! You will only be this little once. Your teaso is the cutest thing ever and it should be bronzed and put in the Smithsonian!

Siesta is a good thing. I always tell you it is good to take a break in the day. It gives mommy a break and you a much needed nap. We sing this song, "Siesta, siesta, a nap in the afternoon. Take a break in the middle of the day, they say it's good for you. Es bueno that is true." You have always been a willing napper. You are are ready to get in your crib, your safe haven, and rest. You are a great sleeper Hudson. You're in bed by 7 or 7:30 and you sleep 12 hours a night. You have been doing that since you were about 3 months old.

There will be a day that you won't want to nap, but we will still take quiet time! We'll cross that bridge when we come to it. Remember, there is nothing wrong with a break in the day, whether you are a child or an adult. It Italy, a siesta is common for everyone. At about noon, everything shuts down there for about three hours for lunch and siesta. This is why Italians live la vita bella. I need to practice what I preach, because I have never been a good napper...

I love you amore, Mamma

Christmas at Home 2010

Hudson,

We traveled before Christmas day so that you could wake up in your house. You were so absolutely precious and you made the entire Christmas special. Just seeing the glow in your eyes and the excitement in your face made mamma and daddy so happy. You received a bag of reindeer feed from school. On Christmas Eve, you spread it all over the lawn for Santa's reindeer. You were so sweet and excited to leave the reindeer food! We put milk and cookies on out for Santa by the fireplace. You said, "Santa's gonna come through here and bring my drum set." Too sweet! The only think you wanted from Santa was a drum set.

The next morning, you woke up and ran down the stairs. Dada was trying to video record you n the i-phone, but it was hard because you were running fast. You sprinted to see if Santa had eaten the cookies and drank the milk and he had! Then, you looked back at your play room and Santa had left your drum set and made the room into a music room. There was a saxophone, a piano/keyboard that Siti added, a new guitar stand for your acoustic guitar, and a new microphone. Your face! That smile, the lights behind your eyes. WOW! It was heaven to see your face. You were screaming, "My drum set! My drum set! This is so cool!" You were so happy and you made us so happy.

Santa left you a note explaining that you had to continue being a good boy and that mamma and dadda had the power to take your drum set away if you were not being a good boy. The letter told you how proud he was of you, and that if you needed help fixing your set or using it, to ask mamma or dadda (you do not like help at all, which can be frustrating for us.) My little musician. A truly blessed Christmas.

This Christmas I want to tell you some important things about the man I hope you are. Remember Jesus' Golden Rule, "Do unto others what they do unto you." You should always treat others as you would like to be treated. Remember how you would feel if you were in the other person's shoes.... Try your hardest not to pass judgment on anyone. It can be hard at times, but remember that you never know how someone feels until you walk in that person's shoes. If someone is mean to you, try to look at it in a different way. Learn from it. Why was that person mean to you? Is that person sad? Is there something going on in their life that you could not possibly understand? ... Remember that we are not alone. You were born in a wonderful country, a country that I love, but we remember that we are not the only ones. Some Americans forget about the world outside of the United States, but the world is truly global. There are many different peoples and languages and cultures - RESPECT them. Do not judge them, yet try and understand them and be open to learning about them. A man who is not open to understanding another culture is cursed with ignorance in my eyes....Do not be a hyprocrite. Mean what you say and say what you mean. There truly is nothing worse that a man who says or does one thing to look a certain way in the eyes of others, but says or does another thing in private. Try very hard not to do this. Be honest with yourself and be yourself - you are beautiful and people will love you for who you are.... Keep your ego in check. Never forget to eat your humble pie - it is good for you. Let others compliment you. We are all equal on this earth. Use your smarts and your success to help others, not look down on others.... Look for ways to help others. You will get busy and not have the chance, but keep looking for ways. It doesn't always have to be something big. Helping others is the cornerstone of a life well lived.

Your Daddy and I are so very proud of you this Christmas. You are such a good boy, you are so intelligent and you have a heart of gold. You have the ability to sense what others are feeling and you empathize with them - it is beautiful.

We love you so very much, with everything we have,

xo Mamma

Banging on the drum set that Santa brought for you.

You're already trying fix something. You are very particular about your things. You like them just so. You get mad if someone touches them and you'll try and put it all back the way it was. If I clean up at night, you wake up, run down to your music room and say, "No! I don't like it this way." Or iif we play your drums, you say, "No, those are my drums." I am hoping some of this is your age - you are still 2. I explain to you that nothing is that important, that these things are just objects and nothing is really yours. I tell you it is ok to get upset if you fall and break your head, but you can't get upset over drums.

Daddy making music with you.

This was your music room that Santa set up for you. Your play to jam, be yourself and let it all go. We want to foster your love of music because it is beautiful.

You actually stopped playing your drums to open your gifts!

You spread reindeer feed on the grass on Christmas Eve.

January 12, 2011 Hudson's drums

Here you are next to your new drum set that Santa gave you. You love your drums and it was the only thing that you wanted from Santa. You listen to music and play your drums and guitars everyday. We have been dancing and listening to music everyday since the day you were born. "Music is what feelings sound like." I read that quote and I loved it. You love music and I love that you love music. xoxoxo Mamma
