Jamming Out...Your Love of Music...
Hudson,
You still love music and jamming out. YEAH! Mommy loves that, I have to admit. What would I do without music and lyrics? I missed my calling, but you have your whole life! Although I will never force you. I hope you continue with your love of music and instruments, but it has to be something you want.
We have been jamming out since you were a baby. It started with me carrying you and listening to loud music and dancing when you were just a wee babe - every single day! Some of the best days of my life!
You still LOVE LOVE LOVE the drums. Your instrument of choice. I put you in piano, but that was a little premature. You were only 3! You were not really into doing the homework, so we are taking a hiatus from that until you are about 4.5. The thing you liked the most about piano class were these 2 girls that also took piano, who you would see before your class. Your teacher was Mr. Mike and you really liked him too. I keep telling you it all starts with the piano. Start there and you will learn music theory and the backbone of what you will need to learn any instrument. I sure wish I would have learned piano when I was young.
Here is what's interesting. You are getting a bit frustrated with your drums. I think you are tired of just banging. Heck, you have the moves. I mean you are a great drummer for 3! You do this crossover with your sticks. It's awesome! However, you will throw them down and say, "I want to play different and I want bigger drums like they have in bands!" I say, "You mean you want to learn to play the drums." You say, "Yes, I do!" It's amazing. You are so smart. I tell you it will happen in due time. You have to keep your interest and be willing to practice and we will get you a big drum set. The funny thing is - You have the biggest drum set around for a 3 year old. You are something else my little rock star!!!
Remember this - You cannot get anywhere in life without practice and passion.
I love you my drummer, my rockstar, my 3-year-old musician,
Mamma

I Came to FLY...
Hudson,
There is a song called "FLY" by Nicki Minaj and Rihanna that I really like. I like the chorus and what it says. Hudson, whatever you do, where you go, give it your all. Go in 100%. Come to win. Come to FLY. A half a man cannot get much done. It doesn't matter if you are waiting tables or running the world, smile and give your all. You are a strong one Hudson, destined for something special. You will thrive at whatever you do because you have passion and this is a beautiful quality.
FLY is one of my favorite words and I am a bird my nature (and it is also my maiden name, fitting huh?) I can see myself flying free all over the world, stopping to say hi to different peoples and cultures and then taking off again. Fly high my love and fly with passion.
I love you amore mio, my love, my heart.... Mamma

I Can't Keep My Eyes Open, but I 'm NOT Napping
Hudson,
You refuse to nap. You think nap time is for babies. One day, you will find out that this is not the case. So, you fight and fight it, however, it's a common scene to see you fall asleep in the car because you actually do need naps still. So, you will nap in the car, but refuse to nap at home. It's funny. I am not sure why. Maybe you think you are missing out if you nap at home and you never want to miss out on anything. Sometimes when we are pulling up into the driveway, you will say, "Drive around Mamma," so you can nap. Lately, with my pregnancy, you fall asleep and then I pull into the driveway and nap with you! Mamma is very fatigued with this pregnancy. I am chasing you all around and playing with you so there no rest for the weary!
I love you sweet boy, Mamma

I think I want to be with the Herbivores
January 15, 2012
Hudson,
You never cease to amaze me. So, we were driving in the road and we were talking about dinosaurs, and you say to me, "Mamma, I think want to be with the herbivores, the ones that eat plants and that are nice. Like the brachiosaurus" Are you some kind of a genius? It's like talking to an adult, not a 3 year old. You have been obsessed with T Rex for so long and I think you are realizing that since T Rex is a meat eating carnivore, he's not so nice. Man, you are smart!
I love you my little dinosaur, Mamma

Hudson, You Will Always Be my Baby....
January 6, 2012
You are growing up. Tear. You are becoming a little bit older everyday. I still remember when we took you home from the hospital, a mere 7 pounds. Now, you just want to be older, you want to be more independent everyday, and apparently, Mamma kisses you too much.
You are extremely intuitive and sweet Hudson. We were driving in the car and you said, "Mamma, are you sad I am going to be 4?" I said, "In a way baby, because you are becoming a big boy, but you will always be my baby. You reply, "Well, that's not gonna happen." Tear. Tear. Tears.
They say about children - when they are young they step on your toes and when they are old they step on your heart. I know that you will step on Mamma's heart even though you won't be trying - as you grow more independent, more intelligent and need me less.
But that is the beautiful thing about raising a child - watching this baby grow into a person and giving and that little person will grow into a big person and this person will grow wings and fly. I know this and want nothing less for you. I grew wings as a teen and I flew - I flew all over, and it will be beautiful to watch you fly, but sometimes, naturally, I assume it will be heartbreaking as it was for my Mamma.
However, you will always be my baby and I will always always be right here for you. And please Hudson, don't grow up too fast. Being a kid is so much more fun and you have your whole life to be a adult! Kids just don't know this! That's why they are kids. You find out too late how much fun being a kid is.
I love you amore mio, Mamma

Hanging in Bed During Xmas Vacation...My Favorite!
December 27, 2012
My Favorite part of Christmas vacation? Laying in bed with you all morning while watching a movie. Not having to get up and get dressed and watch you get dressed. Not having to get you to school by 8 am. Not having to rush, rush rush. LOVED IT! There are days I wish you didn't go to school everyday. I love mornings with you when we are not rushing. There are days I think you are still too young to be going to school everyday. But, there are many days when I am thankful for the school you go to, most days. It's an excellent Montessori and you are a bright kid and you need the challenge and you need to learn - you are a learner - a fast one at that. I love you my love, Mamma
Hunting Gear from Scotty, Squires & Jackson
December 25, 2012
Scotty, Squires and Jackson gave you this hunting gear for Christmas. It was their old gear. You thought it was pretty cool and put the waders and hat on. You did look so cute. You think guns are pretty cool, much to my dismay. I guess I couldn't stop it. You are a boy. You all find them somehow. You will use sticks if you don't have toy ones. I am getting better with the whole notion. Somehow, I thought I could keep them away - HAHA. Can I say, what silly thinking of me!
Personally, guns are not my favorite. You say you are going to hunt someday "like Jackson." You were at the farm and you saw him kill a bird and I think that was confusing for you. You kept asking me why he did that and that you wanted to do it because he did. I am not sure killing animals is in your nature. You seem somewhat sad and conflicted about it. I am not even sure it's in your Daddy's nature. He has been hunting, but not a lot. However, if it is something you are truly interested in someday, I won't keep you from it. Daddy can teach you the proper way and train you - that's the only way I will allow it. I probably won't be able to keep you away from hunting, especially with Daddy's side of the family being hunters. Look, some people do it as sport and to each their own, but personally, I don't see what a person gains by killing another animal, but that's me...
I love you, Mamma

Christmas at Home in Dallas
December 25 & 26 2011
HO HO HO! Merry Christmas!
After New York City and OKC, we finally celebrated Christmas at our house. It was great to get home and prepare for Santa Claus and watch you wake up in the morning and open all your presents. That brought Daddy and I so much joy!
First and foremost, Christmas is Jesus' birthday, so happy birthday Jesus!
Luke 1:35 The angel answered, "The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God."
You sprinkled reindeer feed all over the lawn the night before Christmas. You were so precious!
Your music room had lots of new gifts from Santa, including the new drum set (below). We left milk and cookies out for Santa and you wrote him a note. It was so sweet!
You loved all your new toys. You had such a blast opening your presents and we loved watching you. Daddy gave Mommy lots of awesome presents! H was generous, as always. You jammed on your drums and you also put on the waders and hunting hat that Squires, Jackson and Scotty gave you. You really liked the lasso that Santa gave you as well. It was special morning. We love you Hudson!
p.s. Hudson. be a good boy like Santa said. He wrote you this long note about how you have been good and so he brought you many presents, but he said that he would be watching and to make sure you share your toys and respect your mommy and Daddy, among other things... Santa rocks!
p.s. Always remember that toys will not make you happy. Stuff won't make you happy. The only thing that can bring you true happiness is LOVE - loving others, giving to others and loving yourself. It's one of the truest thing I'll ever tell you.
